About CH44 & Hans J. Wegner:

Hans J. Wegner, known for his cabinetmaker’s precision and modern functionalist vision, designed the CH44 lounge chair in 1965, achieving a perfect balance of simplicity and functionality. This chair showcases Wegner’s signature detailed craftsmanship, featuring distinct joints between the front legs and armrests and grooves on the top of the rear legs for hanging a back cushion. The armrests elegantly slope upwards toward the rear legs, becoming more slender to strengthen the vertical joint. The result is a striking and comfortable piece.

Inspired by American Shaker furniture principles, the CH44 lounge chair embodies the same simplicity found in Wegner’s CH46 and CH47 chairs. Crafted from solid wood, the chair features a durable paper cord seat and is available with optional seat and backrest cushions. For added comfort, it pairs perfectly with the matching low CH53 footstool.

Hans J. Wegner, a pioneer among Danish furniture designers, is celebrated for his creativity, innovation, and prolific output. Often called the “master of the chair,” he designed nearly 500 chairs in his lifetime, many of which are considered masterpieces. Wegner is perhaps best known for his iconic Wishbone Chair, in continuous production since 1950.
