Carl Hansen & Søn – HJW01 & HJW02 Opala Tischleuchte MINI & MIDI: Wegner originally designed the Opala MIDI for the Hotel Scandinavia in Copenhagen. The smaller Opala MINI, forgotten until 2006, was developed for the Scanticon Conference Centre in New Jersey, USA. It was launched in 2007 after its potential was recognized.

The HJW01 & HJW02 Opala table lamp MINI & MIDI by Hans J. Wegner:
Hans J. Wegner was born in 1914 in Tønder, Denmark. At the age of 22, he attended the School of Applied Arts in Copenhagen in 1936, and later returned to teach. In 1943, he opened his own design studio and designed the Chinese Chair. This chair, along with his 1949 Round Chair, laid the foundation for many of his subsequent designs. The Round Chair became widely known as The Chair. Although The Chair is probably the most iconic piece in Wegner’s career, the Wishbone Chair is often considered his most successful design.
Originally, Wegner designed only one size of the Opala table lamp: the Opala MIDI, designed for the Hotel Scandinavia in Copenhagen. However, the smaller version – now known as the Opala MINI table lamp – was largely forgotten until it was rediscovered in 2006. Then it turned out that Wegner had designed this version for the Scanticon Conference Centre in New Jersey, USA. When the great potential was recognized, the Opala MINI was launched for the first time in 2007.
