Carl Hansen & Søn – The VLA61 Monarch Chair was designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen in 1944 and originally produced in an edition of just 10 pieces. The chair is characterized by a poetic design language, functionalist details and an elegant interplay of soft upholstery and a carefully hand-polished frame. It is available in several versions.

Vilhelm Lauritzen  (1894 – 1984) :

Vilhelm Theodor Lauritzen was one of Denmark’s most important architects and a father of Danish modernism. Many of his projects are now considered lasting examples of the then new and revolutionary approach to architecture, where form followed function. Throughout his career, he believed that architecture should be an applied art that serves everyone, not just a privileged few. Lauritzen’s talents also extended to interior design. Over the course of his career, he designed everything from doorknobs, ashtrays and railings to lamps, sofas and chairs. In 1922, he founded the firm Tegnestuen Vilhelm Lauritzen, now known as Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects.
