The France Chair Design by Finn Juhl

The France Chair, or FJ 136, was designed in the late 1950s for the American market. Originally, it was shipped flat-packed as a knock-down piece of furniture. This was Mr. France’s business idea and the key to his phenomenal success in the American market. Today, however, the chair is delivered fully assembled.

Although originally designed for industrial production, the chair retains Finn Juhl’s signature design details. The seat and backrest are lifted from the frame, while the armrests feature the iconic paper knife detail, also found on the legendary 45 Chair. The chair is available in oak, smoked oak, black-stained oak, or walnut with hand-stitched fabric or leather upholstery.
