The Pelican Design by Finn Juhl:

The Pelican Chair’s soft, organic shapes resemble one body embracing another. Sitting in the chair feels almost like a welcoming hug. Like many of Finn Juhl’s later designs, the chair invites you to relax in a range of comfortable positions. The Pelican Chair is produced in two versions—with or without buttons.

Finn Juhl’s fascination with surrealism is evident in the Pelican Chair, perhaps more so than in any of his other works. First exhibited in 1940 at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition, it stood out with its unusual form and sturdy legs.

Juhl typically named his furniture after the year it was designed, but the nickname “Pelican” became widely adopted. Only a limited number were initially made, and the chair was nearly forgotten until its rediscovery and re-release in 2001.
