Back in the 1950s, Louis Poulsen introduced a new reading lamp by Poul Henningsen, the celebrated pioneer of Danish design. Due to the height-adjustable lamp arm, the design was quickly nicknamed “the water pump”. In honor of Poul Henningsen and his legendary work, the PH 3/2 floor lamp in amber glass is available in 2019 as a special limited PH edition. In the water pump, Poul Henningsen’s famous three-shade system has been retained. He had invented it in 1926 to reduce glare and improve luminosity in his designs. The shades are made of hand-blown amber glass – the golden shimmer on both sides and the slightly milky glass create a warm and inviting light. In the late 1920s, Poul Henningsen and Louis Poulsen introduced colored glass lights to attract new customers. But perhaps the golden glow of the shades reminded the designer of the time before electricity became standard in homes, when evenings were spent in the soft glow of kerosene lamps. The base, stand and arm are made of untreated brushed brass, which accentuates the authentic look of the lamp and creates an elegant yet intimate and cozy ambiance in any room. The design of the light switch dates back to Henningsen’s table lamps from 1927.
