The design of the Sibast Furniture – Piet Hein Dining chair:
As with the Superellipse dining table, the development of the Piet Hein chair took almost a decade, from the initial idea to the completion of the furniture piece in 1968. Piet Hein, who was known for working on a variety of projects simultaneously, developed the Piet Hein chair based on the Superellipse, a shape he had originally developed for a combined town square and traffic circle at Sergels Torg in Stockholm. With the help of mathematics, Piet Hein arrived at a harmonious geometric form that he subsequently used in various contexts.
The story of Sibast Furniture is the story of a dedicated family business and Danish furniture manufacturer that has set the bar for excellence in craftsmanship and well-thought-out design since its founding more than a century ago. It is also a story about wood, passion and four generations of focused effort to develop a classic collection, in which each piece of furniture is distinguished by its powerful integrity and an exceptionally high level of craftsmanship.
