The Fredericia Furniture – Spanish Chair is all about Scandinavian design with its extraordinary sophistication and elegance, and was designed by Børge Mogensen in 1958. The Spanish Chair os a Lounge chair of solid wood and saddle leather. Interchangeable seat and back made in vegetable tanned saddle leather with metal buckles. Leather seat has canvas backing. Saddle straps can be tightened as the leather expands through use.

The Spanish Design by Børge Mogensen

It’s ironic that something called The Spanish Chair became synonymous with Danish design. However, the origin of its name and its unmistakable aesthetics make the chair worthy of its reputation.

Børge Mogensen took a lot of inspiration from traditional chairs from other cultures, such as the English Windsor chairs and the Shaker movement in America. In Spain, furniture was traditionally made using sturdy leather to construct the seat as part of a wooden structure – hence the name of one of Mogensen’s most famous designs.

Mogensen was an advocate of visual calm, simple lines, strong construction, and natural materials that add an extra dimension to beauty and increase the longevity of a design. Principles that supported his belief that good furniture should be enjoyed now and for generations to come.
