Originally designed by Danish designer Viggo Boesen in 1938, the Petra lounge chair features a high, winged backrest and offers exceptional comfort. This design builds on the success of Boesen’s earlier creation, Little Petra, which was named after his mother-in-law, Petra—a small woman with a big personality. The warmth and character of her presence are reflected in the embracing, organic shape of the chair. Petra retains the same bold aesthetic but in a larger, more expansive form.

The Little Petra Collection by Viggo Boesen:

Little Petra was designed in 1938 and immediately praised at the exhibition of the Cabinetmakers Guild in Copenhagen and afterwards she was awarded at exhibitions in New York and Berlin. It is one of the few designs by architect Viggo Boesen to be associated with Denmark’s signature design aesthetic known as the funkis style in the 1930s. Little Petra is surprisingly small and fits into all types of rooms, interiors and environments. Low on the floor, open and hugging, it embodies the essence of a lounge sofa and enables all kinds of seating positions in every conceivable cozy environment.
