The Finn Juhl – Poet Sofa first saw the light of day in 1941 at the Copenhagen Carpenters Guild exhibition. It should be seen as a natural evolution of the Pelican chair that was exhibited the previous year. The upholstery is very slim compared to the norm at the time and is the result of Finn Juhl’s desire to create functional furniture for smaller homes.

The Poet Design by Finn Juhl:

The Poet Sofa was one of Finn Juhl’s experiments for his own home. At the guild exhibition, the sofa was shown along with some plaster reliefs by the artist Sigurjón Ólafsson. In this way he pointed out the connection between furniture and sculpture. The small sofa is a very comfortable enclosure for two people to sit next to each other in a comfortable manner.

The small sofa received its name much later, in 1959, when a popular Danish cartoonist depicted the exact sofa as the place where a young poet retreated to reflect on the complexities of life.

The Poet Sofa is available in the same finish as the Pelican Chair – with hand-sewn fabric or leather upholstery and legs in oak, walnut or black.
